Falsettos is a critically acclaimed musical that explores themes of love, identity, and family in unconventional and powerful ways. The show made its Broadway debut in 1992, combining two earlier one-act musicals: March of the Falsettos (1981) and Falsettoland (1990).
Set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Falsettos centers on Marvin, who has left his wife to be with a male lover, Whizzer, and struggles to keep his family together. The show broke new ground by addressing complex issues such as divorce, same-sex relationships, and the AIDS crisis, all through the lens of a tight-knit Jewish family in New York. The musical is known for its emotional depth, humor, and unforgettable characters, making it both a time capsule of its era and a timeless exploration of human connection. It continues to resonate with audiences today for its portrayal of non-traditional families, their struggles, and the love that binds them together.
